Manufacturing Division

Fasteners built for load, vibration and weather

A fastener is usually the smallest part in an assembly and the first one blamed when a joint moves. Our fastener division exists to take that risk off your drawing: threaded and non-threaded parts produced to a named standard, in the material and finish the working environment actually calls for.

The range serves automotive assembly, construction and infrastructure, heavy machinery, metal fabrication and the energy sector, from a single-pallet trial order through to repeat container volumes for OEMs and distributors. Standard catalogue sizes ship from production; anything outside them we make to your drawing or to a sample you send us.

What we manufacture

Eight product families. Each is listed with the variants we hold, the materials we run it in, the standards we quote against, and where it typically ends up, so you can check fit before you write an enquiry.

Nuts

A nut only earns its place if it still holds after the joint has been shaken for a year. We produce hex nuts across the common property classes, plus nylon-insert and flange variants for assemblies that see continuous vibration. Thread gauging is done batch by batch, so the nut runs freely down your bolt without being loose on it: the difference between a joint that torques correctly and one that strips on the line.

Bolts

Hex head bolts in both half thread and full thread, heat-treated to the property class on your order. Threads are rolled rather than cut, which leaves the grain of the steel following the thread profile instead of being sliced across it: a rolled thread survives repeated tightening cycles that a cut thread will eventually shear. Non-standard lengths and drilled or slotted heads are made to drawing.

Washers

Washers spread the clamping load over a wider footprint so a bolt head does not bite into softer material, and spring and lock types add the tension that keeps a joint from backing off under vibration. We supply plain, spring, lock, tab and shim washers, including precision thicknesses cut to your tolerance where a stack has to be shimmed to a specific height.

Anchor bolts

Anchor bolts tie steelwork, machine bases and equipment down to concrete, which means they are cast in and never inspected again. We make J, L and U-type foundation anchors plus threaded-end studs, in high-tensile material with the embedded length and projection set from your foundation drawing. Hot-dip galvanising is available where the bolt sits at a slab edge and moisture can track down the shaft.

Rivets

Rivets make a permanent joint where welding would distort thin sheet or where the assembly has to stay vibration-tight without anyone re-torquing it. They are also the answer when only one side of the joint is reachable: a blind rivet sets from the face and pulls its own tail up behind the panel. We supply solid rivets for structural work and blind rivets for sheet and cladding, in steel and aluminium.

Ring gaskets

Ring-type joint gaskets seal flanged connections by deforming metal-to-metal into the machined groove of the flange, which is why they hold where a soft gasket would blow out: high pressure, high temperature, or both. Profile and hardness matter more than anything else here: the ring must be softer than the flange it seats into, so we supply with material certification and hardness readings against the R, RX and BX profiles.

Steel nail coils

Our founding product and the line we run the most of. Wire-collated coils for pneumatic framing, roofing and pallet nailers, in smooth, ring and screw shank: ring shank for withdrawal resistance in softwood, screw shank where the timber will move as it dries. Collation wire and coil diameter are matched to the gun so the magazine feeds without jamming at volume.

Nail sizes, gauges and shank types

Nail coils are wound into a spiral so a pneumatic gun can feed them one at a time without reloading every few fixings. We produce them across the full penny-size and wire-gauge range, with the surface treatment matched to where the work is: bright indoors, galvanised where weather or moisture will reach the fixing.

Shank types

The shank decides how hard the nail is to pull back out. Smooth drives fastest, ring resists withdrawal in softwood, screw holds where timber will move as it dries.

Smooth Shank Coiled Nails

Smooth Shank Coiled Nails

Ideal for general construction and framing where maximum holding power is not required.

Ring Shank Coiled Nails

Ring Shank Coiled Nails

Offers superior withdrawal resistance, making them perfect for decking, sheathing, and subfloors.

Screw Shank Coiled Nails

Screw Shank Coiled Nails

Provide the best holding power, often used in crating, pallet manufacturing, and framing with dense woods.

L = 3 × T

Choosing a length. A nail should be roughly three times the thickness of the material it is fixing through: an 8-penny nail suits 1-inch stock, a 16-penny nail suits 2-inch. Too short and it will not hold; too long and the point comes through the back.

Coatings for coil nails

Where the work is exposed to weather for years, the coating decides the life of the fixing more than the steel underneath it does.

Electro-galvanized

It is a zinc electrolytic process that adds a thin coating to the carbon steel nails. Electro galvanising coating can withstand dry and low-corrosion applications for a few more months or possibly an extra year. But it is not recommended for corrosive environments.

Hot dipped galvanized

It is an effective way of preventing metal corrosion, mainly used for metal structure on the facilities of the industry. Hot dipped galvanised nails are recommended for pressure-treated wood and cedar which can cause standard nails to corrode quickly.

Stainless Steel 304/316

These types of materials are the appropriate choices for high-level corrosion protection requirements, especially for most exterior applications. 316 grade stainless steel, chromium-nickel alloys can stand up to marine and corrosive industrial atmospheres.

Forming Methods

High-performance forged fasteners

Forging shapes steel while it is plastic rather than cutting material away, so the grain bends to follow the part instead of being severed by a tool. That is what stops a head shearing off a shank under load. The route is chosen by the part, not by what is idle on the shop floor.

Closed die

Repeat-volume parts

Metal is pressed inside a shaped cavity, so each piece leaves the press to the same dimensions. Tooling costs money up front and pays it back on repeat orders, which is the route for catalogue sizes and OEM schedules.

Open die

Heavy and one-off sections

Worked between flat tools with no cavity, which suits large anchors and oversize blanks where a closed die would never earn back its tooling. Dimensions are held by the operator and verified after forming.

Roll forming

Threads and long bar

Threads are rolled between hardened dies rather than cut. The surface work-hardens and the grain stays unbroken, producing a thread with better fatigue life than machining can give.

Materials and Finishes

Most fastener failures we are asked to investigate are corrosion, not overload. Find the row that matches where the part will actually sit; we will confirm availability in your sizes at quotation.
